EU should mandate that all devices must be unlocked when the vendor stops supporting the latest OS on the device.

All software and documentation should be open sourced if you stop fully supporting the product.

It's important to note that the approach demonstrated here uses NO iBOOT code or ANY other Apple code at all. No apple software needs to be shipped, patched or rooted. We literally do not need iBoot at all.

The team took on the additional work to build a completely fresh bootloader, side stepping obvious legal and technical moves the OEM could make to mitigate Linux adoption on the A13 iPhone 11. This is the most durable approach and represents a nearly blob free approach to running Linux of iPhone 11.

Getting custom environments or bare-bones OS control onto modern locked-down consumer hardware is always impressive.

We deal with a parallel challenge in the Android TV / Google TV space: modern updates (especially Android TV 14+) continuously tighten restrictions, killing accessibility services and forcing OEM bloatware launchers.

Achieving clean, durable control often comes down to clever non-destructive ADB flows (setting home-activity handlers, disabling stock packages per-user without bricking OTA updates) rather than fighting low-level boot chains. Always respect people pushing hardware beyond its artificial walled-garden limits.
