    I find it easy to explain what I do in a high-level muggle-friendly way: I write software that makes it easier for other software engineers to make their software more reliable. I they try to dig deeper, there is a number of lines of conversation you can use to dissuade them - using terms from sorcery/necromancy or science-fiction. I teach sand to obey my commands. If I were into AI, I'd say I make golems out of computers.

    That used to be true, but isn't anymore. Now it will often get you the side-eye instead. I've taken to not admitting to people that I'm a dev until/unless they get know me better first.
