Funny total amounts they talk about. Europe lost it, enjoy being behind AI, I guess? First they decided to lose big in Energy and now this.

In few years or decade they will blame some other wrong decision probably.

Brussels is set to contribute roughly €5 billion, matched by another €5 billion from European governments, alongside around €20 billion in private investment.

You can train a model like DeepSeek-V4-Pro with around $2 billion. The current funding is certainly not enough to get ahead in AI, but it is sufficient to get independence in case the open models should dry up suddenly.

They probably can't train that without AI talent, datasets and hungry teams in startups that compete together. Regulation would also prohibit competing models. By the time they get that funding, European lost will be %100 confirmed by majority, including you perhaps? Race is already lost. They lost it because gap behind Usa, China and rest just growing bigger already.

I think this is less about winning the AGI race and more about not dropping out of AI entirely.
