The real question is, will you : (a)get your pardon, (b) run out the statute of limitations, or (c) buy off a politician with part of the proceeds?

It's being perpetrated right in front of us by this administration. They have been embezzling billions in so many schemes:

    - Crypto scams by DJT

    - Trump Phone

    - The whole Tariff Refund Scheme by Lutnick's firm Cantor Fitzgerald

    - The billions stolen from Venezuela just recently

    - the J-6 "Slush Fund"

    - The guy who got the Reflection Pool contract is mysteriously a Mar a Lago regular

And probably many many more we don't even know about.

Not so new: the legend of the Fisher king (the source of Parsifal), the implicit theology of the Deuteronomistic history, the substitute king ritual in Assyria all speak to a conception of a connection between a rulers moral and physical health and the realm.

I suppose the Egyptians sidestepped it a bit, by having the Pharaoh only gain most of their godly power (and responsibility) after death.
