    Upton Sinclair's "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it". comes to mind, regarding the Democratic aristocracy in place and with sinecure. Most people at a lower socioeconomic level think retirement is a goal not a threat. But for congress and senate, relevance deprivation syndrome appears the stronger motivation.

    Honestly, I think most democratic voters would respect their leadership more if they appeared to understand succession planning.
