Inaccessible Island Rail (#6) is my favorite, because none of these words imply anything about what the species is going to be
Oh never knew the name Bananaquit. We call them "barika hel" (yellow belly) in Papiamentu or Suikerdiefje (lil' sugar thief) in Dutch.
My next 100 passwords are sorted.
The Morepork is named after the sound it makes, you can listen to it here, https://www.nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/morepork. OTOH some other birds named after their call like the Hadada sound nothing like it.
The blue-footed booby deserves a place in the top 10, IMHO. But I see the competition is fierce.
Hard to believe that great tits weren't even mentioned
At least they had the Dickcissel.
Nor the great bustards
or Larry
Predicted Antwren is a new favorite. How interesting.
