I share the admiration for the electric typewriters mentioned. This brought back memories.
Nabokov’s writerdeck was a literal deck of index cards, some wooden pencils, and a lectern. Yes, he used a standing desk before it was cool.
I have heard he would write entire books out on index cards and then rearrange them as part of his creative process. I love that.
Apparently Vera (his wife and editor) would carry a handgun in her purse to protect them on their travels. My wife recites this fact often.
