Why would anyone not want cheap energy?

The only logic reason I can see is purely political --- to cater to the petro industry at the expense of consumers and manufacturers.

China is adding solar capacity at an astonishing rate --- because they realize that cheap energy offers a competitive advantage to their manufacturing.

It's time to wake up and smell the coffee --- America First is really leaving the USA behind the rest of the world.

Democrats have learned to get the messaging right lately, focusing on affordability instead of climate change. Hopefully they can stick to it while driving back the folks pushing fossil interests. Just keep hammering home that renewables and batteries will get you cheaper generation costs, ignore that it helps solve climate change too.

The bottom line is that cheap energy is an economic issue --- not a political one.

Cheap power is a competitive advantage --- period, the end.

The leadership in China gets this, US leadership doesn't.

Indeed, but you must message it aggressively and continually as such politically, and even then, there are immense vested interests who are going to try to hold you back [1]. Even Texas had to fight very hard against itself politically to ensure they could keep deploying solar at scale [2].

Strongly agree. With that said, humans are notoriously irrational and self-interested, and collective action problems and governance are fraught with peril.
