ArcoLinux was always one of my favorite linux distros, i have had a lot of fun using it, i have used it few times going and coming back to it, it had a sweet spot for almost every type of linux(arch) user, every DE you can think of, different installers, tons of customizations, the abilty to build your own ISO packed with your favorite apps and tweaks as far as you like, and i was always admiring Erek, the creator and maintainer of the project, an awesome guy who gave a lot to the linux community in my opinion, that's what set it appart from other linux distros, it was a full project, not just another distro with few tweaks, all i can say is thank you very much Erik, for the awesome journey we have had together.

It is endlessly fascinating how deep the fractal patterns of interests go. I know of Arch of course but have never run across Arco.

From the post I can't tell it's actual reach or impact but it certainly seems to have been a significant piece of work in terms of scope.

I hope to still noodle on open source in my retirement (when it is time) but I could certainly see wanting to get out from under the many expectations.

Wow. Arco was my first introduction into Arch-based systems - it taught me invaluable amounts of information. I run Arch Linux now, but Arco always has had a special place in my heart. So sad to see it go.

mate, never heard of it. but reading that the maintainer has done gargantuan effort to make it more accessible to the masses, all I can say is thank you very much and may whatever endeavours you're going to take will be much more fruitful to you.

I remember I enjoyed watching some of the youtube videos connected to this website when I was learning GNU/Linux more generally

    Great work.

I just wish there are other reasons behind stepping down: aging is a synonym of cognitive decline. Sad.

Dude, no. Aging is literally a series of bursts in realization of priorities of your life. Checks and balances of all the things you always wanted to do, the person you wanted to be, and never will.

I would define that psychological process as “maturing”, as opposed to the more biological process usually referred to as “aging”. Although the two are usually highly correlated.

        Quoted from the article:

"Why It’s Time to Step Back

As I near 60, I’ve come to realize I simply don’t have the same mental sharpness or stamina I used to."

Decline in mind sharpness. Decline in stamina.

It is your twist and unjustifiable generalization of the author's words about the author himself:

          > "aging is a synonym of cognitive decline"

          compared to:

          > As I near 60, I’ve come to realize I simply don’t have the same mental sharpness or stamina I used to.

The author did not say anything about anyone else.

I can sympathize, being approximately that age myself. I find myself struggling with simple shell one-liners, going to the AI as a crutch, suddenly remembering “obviously, yes, this is the way” and then getting frustrated at myself thinking “30 years ago, I would have had this whole thing done by now.”

Is my angst misplaced? Maybe. Does it affect everyone my age? Of course not. Would my 20 something self have done any better? Probably not.

          But the feels are real.
