This has been a really interesting part of having a 15 year old. Kids at that age are starting to really want independence and make lofty claims about what they will do, but they have no context for the difficulties involved with their desires. Then when a very minor road bump appears they come running for help :p.

Their brains seem to simplify tasks they have 0 experience with. Things like: owning car, renting an apartment, getting a job are all viewed as something that they will "just do" and don't really seem to raise any concerns.

Lofty claims are great – a propensity for them is not a given at 15, nor at any age. So many fall into the opposite scenario, of uncertainty and unknown complexity causing them to dial claims down. That _destroys_ potential.

    > "Because people assume they have adequate information, they enter judgment and decision-making processes with less humility and more confidence than they might if they were worrying whether they knew the whole story or not,"

People do know. What they know might not be so. What is the point of this common sense analysis? Seems like "check your facts" stretched out to an unwieldy length.
