But do Americans really celebrate Columbus' day because they think he was a good person? Or is it just that the name "Columbus" signifies the discovery (and the conquest of course) of the land in which live today?
I'm old, but when I was in school, Columbus was absolutely talked about as if he were not just a good person, but in almost saintly terms.
