    Maybe I missed it, but the story didn't seem to even touch on why the ship ran around.

    That surprised me, as most stories I've read about mishaps with U.S. Navy ships cover causes/blame extensively.

      Probably because it just happened last night NZ time. Need to to investigate before they release details.

    How fucked is that reef, now that a 5.7 tonnes of modern ship is sinking in the middle of it?

    Also, this was a neat bit of the article; imagine fleeing a sinking ship by walking to land:
